Human beings take 21,600 breaths a day. If you try to stop your breathing, even for a moment, it becomes clear that the breath is really breathing you. It is automatic. However, we do have control over how deeply we breathe, how often, and through what channels.
Pranayama is the art of breathing, or more clearly the art of regulating and restraining the breath to produce specific results in the body and in the mind.
Mental clarity, peace of mind, energizing effects, calming effects can all be gained by practicing pranayama.
The practices offered here are for everyone. The breathing styles are gentle and produce beneficial effects. By practicing pranayama, you may notice an increase in vitality, clarity, and peace of mind right away. With regular practice, pranayama builds the immune system and builds resistance to injury by increasing your body’s storage of vital energy, or prana inherent in the breath.
Begin each practice with Nadi Shodhana to balance the body, breath, and mind. This practice should be honored by being mindful, taking your time, and listening to your body.
